Pin Out & Cabling

Pin 1 and 6 are empty.

Pin 9 has 12 volts on PVI-44, PVI-46, PVI-64, & old PVI-83's.

Pin 9 can be with or without 12 volts on new PVI-83's and PVI-X90's.

There are jumper locations on new 83's and X90's boards that determine which COMM port has the voltage on pin 9. (There is one jumper location for each COMM port. When the jumpers are not in, there is no voltage on pin 9. When the jumpers are in there is voltage on pin 9.) Those jumpers only apply to COMM 1 or COMM 2. COMM 3 – 10 ALWAYS have voltage on pin 9. If you have a device that will “freak out” at voltage on pin 9, plug it into COMM 1 or COMM 2 without the jumpers in. We only apply voltage to Pin 9 to give power to our touch screen line drivers. Unless otherwise noted the Pointmaker leaves the factory with Pin 9 empty on COMM 1 and COMM 2.

Handshaking

The Pointmaker needs hardware handshaking when the COMM port is designated as a control port. (AMX/Creston) The Pointmaker digitizing tablet also needs pins 7&8, but they can be tied together or jumped at the tablet and it will work fine. Other drawing devices may need hardware handshaking, but it depends on the device.

Cabling

When using drawing devices, (touchscreens, tablets, etc.) typically you will need a straight-thru connection.

When controlling the Pointmaker from a computer, AMX, Crestron, etc. typically you will need a null-modem connection.
